Equipment Usage and Care
Orientation and Training: New users must complete a brief orientation on VR/MR device handling, storage, and health and safety requirements.
Device Adjustments: Adjust headsets carefully to avoid damage. Seek help if unsure about fitting the device securely and comfortably.
Personal Health and Safety Precautions:
Breaks: Take breaks as needed to avoid eye strain, nausea, or fatigue. Follow lab guidelines on the maximum recommended session length.
Awareness: Be aware of surroundings, especially when in virtual or immersive environments. Stay within designated areas to avoid collisions with furniture, equipment, or people.
Medical Restrictions: Individuals with certain medical conditions (e.g., epilepsy, vertigo) should consult with a health professional before using VR/MR devices.
Device Handling and Report Issues Promptly
Damaged Equipment: Report any tampered, damaged, or malfunctioning equipment immediately to the Digital Technologist or lab staff. Do not attempt repairs or troubleshooting on your own.
Proper Handling: Use both hands when handling VR/MR headsets and avoid pulling on cables or forcefully adjusting lenses. Treat all equipment respectfully, handle it with care, and avoid unnecessary roughness. Do not move equipment from its designated area without permission.
Storage: Return devices to their designated storage areas after use, ensuring they are placed carefully to prevent scratches, falls, or damage. If applicable, power off devices or plug them in for charging per lab protocols. If it is a VR/MR headset, please make sure to check all the accessories are in place (controllers, charger) and eye mask is placed inside the headset googles.
Cleaning: After using any equipment, clean it thoroughly by placing it in the UV Light Cleaner or wiping it down with supplied baby wipes. Especially wipe around the forehead and face, while using dry lens wiper (provided in the casing) eyes area of the headset. Sanitize headsets and controllers before and after each use to ensure hygiene, especially around the face and eyes. Labs should provide wipes or sanitizer for this purpose.
Equipment in Lab Only: Equipment must stay within the lab unless you receive written permission from the Digital Technologist.
Idle Equipment: Return any unused or idle equipment to prevent loss or theft. Lost equipment is the responsibility of the borrower, and access logs may be reviewed as needed.
Account Security: Log in only with your credentials and never share your login information. Log out and shut down the PC after use to maintain security and energy efficiency.
Data Management: Save your work on personal or cloud storage; files saved on local drives may be deleted regularly.
Software Restrictions: Only use software approved by lab administrators. Installing other software is prohibited.
